Sunday Lunch At Roe Canary Wharf London E14

We recently met friends for a lovely Sunday lunch at Roe in Canary Wharf. They were staying nearby and booked Row because it ticked all the boxes: a great menu, dog-friendliness (important for us), and an easy stroll from their hotel. It’s set right on the water, which immediately makes it feel like a bit of an occasion, even if you’re just popping out for lunch. Roe serves seasonal British food with a modern European feel, alongside classic Sunday roasts. If you’re looking for Sunday lunch in Canary Wharf, somewhere easy to meet friends near Canary Wharf station, or dog-friendly restaurants in E14, this is an excellent choice.

“Roe is a modern European restaurant serving everything from Sunday roasts to Saturday bottomless brunch, whether you’re a cosy twosome or a group of friends, you’ll have a fabulous time,” Homegirl London.

Roe Restaurant Canary Wharf Sunday Menu

The Sunday menu is packed with options, from snacks and small plates to roasts and larger dishes, so you can keep things traditional or mix it up depending on your mood. To start, there’s sourdough with butter, crispy stuffed chicken wings and padron peppers. Our friends treated themselves to half a dozen oysters and were very pleased with their decision. Starters cost £5-26.

We went straight in on the small plates, choosing the mushroom parfait with smoked shiitake and oyster mushrooms and grilled bread, which was earthy and rich in a really moreish way. Then came the blooming onion with pickled onion and smoked leek mayonnaise, which arrived looking so impressive that the whole table paused for a second to admire it. That was also the moment I stopped pretending I wasn’t going to take pictures. I’d been holding back to avoid turning lunch into a full photoshoot, but it felt too good not to capture. Small plates range from £12 to £22.

We also couldn’t resist one of their wildfarmed flatbreads, so we chose the vegetarian Tunworth with pumpkin, pear, sage and honey. Honestly, wow. It’s the kind of combination that sounds intriguing on the menu, then tastes even better when it arrives. Other versions include pig’s head with jalapeno salsa verde and crispy pig’s ear, and British octopus with cod’s roe, fennel and chilli crisp.

For a larger plate, we tried the hen of the woods burger with cheese, onion, pickles and lettuce. The mushroom patty had a lovely char and plenty of umami, and it felt properly satisfying rather than an afterthought. We added fries, and we also ordered the smoked cauliflower cheese, which was rich and comforting, exactly what you want on a Sunday. Other large plates include a dairy cow burger, flame-grilled sriracha mussels and market fish in a pink peppercorn sauce. Prices range from £17 to £20.

The Sunday roasts sounded impressive: beef rump, leg of lamb, free-range chicken, or maitake mushroom, all served with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, parsnips, cabbage, greens, and gravy, at £30. In the end, none of us ordered one, mostly because we were in sharing mode and didn’t want to commit. It’s also a perfect excuse to go back, as I do want to try the roast now, I’ve seen how good everything else was. They also have a selection of steaks, from fillet to sirloin and ribeye, with a choice of sauces, which adds to that “this could easily turn into a long lunch” feeling.

roe restaurant canary wharf dessert

For dessert, we shared the caramelised banana parfait with peanut and toasted vanilla, and it genuinely looked like a real banana on the plate. It’s such a clever little illusion. Inside, it was smooth and creamy, with sweet caramel notes and a gentle peanutty nuttiness that worked so well with the toasted vanilla. Other desserts include sticky toffee soft serve, a toasted vanilla s’more, and rice pudding with Earl Grey ice cream. Desserts range from £10.50 to £17.

The wine list is well-chosen, and there are cocktails and good non-alcoholic options, too. It’s the sort of drinks list that makes you want to settle in and not rush, which is exactly what you want for a relaxed Sunday lunch.

Helpful Information About Roe Canary Wharf

Inside, Roe is buzzy but never too loud, so you get atmosphere without having to shout across the table. There’s plenty of space between tables, which instantly makes it feel more comfortable, and the high ceilings and lots of glass keep it light and airy even on a grey day. There are also loads of outdoor seating overlooking the water, which would be gorgeous in warmer weather. We even bumped into our next-door neighbours, who have moved to the area, which felt very “Sunday in London” in the best way.
