Restaurant Review: Sushi Zento Japanese Restaurant. One of my favourite dependable go-to restaurants is Sushi Zento, located in Muswell Hill. It’s a low-key place where you can rock up in your tracksuit bottoms and feast on great tasting Japanese food. If you’re looking for the best restaurants in Muswell Hill, Japanese food in North London or sushi in N10, then you must try the Sushi Zento Japanese Restaurant.
“A dependable, friendly and reasonably priced traditional Japanese restaurant serving good quality sushi, bento boxes and noodle dishes,” Homegirl London
Sushi Zento Japanese Restaurant Menu
You’ll find all your traditional Japanese favourites listed on the extensive menu. Everything tastes fresh, and the food is well presented at reasonable prices which is a winning combination. I’ve eaten many meals here and have always enjoyed every visit immensely. My benchmark for a Japanese restaurant is the tempura, and here the vegetable, sweet potato and ebi tempura all get the big thumbs up. The gyoza is also worth ordering for starters as is the kimchi and mixed pickles. Otherwise, you can try deep-fried aubergines with a sweet miso paste, spring rolls or pumpkin croquettes.

My friend’s benchmark is the chicken katsu curry which he orders most times we eat at a Japanese restaurant. He says that they serve the best chicken katsu curry he’s ever eaten which is praise indeed! And that’s from someone who has been to Japan!

I tend to sway towards a vegetable udon dish which you can also enjoy with chicken, seafood or beef. If it’s cold outside, I’ll go for a ramen vegetable soup which you can order with salmon, seafood, chicken, pork or beef if you’d prefer. The udon soup is ideal if you love thick wheat noodles.

Homeboy tends to order one of the bento boxes or sushi. He’s tried the salmon teriyaki, sashimi and sushi bento boxes which are all super tasty and perfectly presented. Alternatively, you can try tempura, chicken teriyaki, deep-fried chicken, pork cutlet and a few other variations.

As for the sushi, well you’ll certainly be in heaven because you can choose from a very long list. From sashimi (raw fish or seafood) to nigiri (sushi rice topped with fresh seafood), makimono (one roll cut into small bite-size pieces), inside out rolls, middle rolls or special rolls. If you’re not sure what to order, try one of the sushi sets to make your life easier!

To give you an idea about prices the bento boxes are £8.90-16, noodle dishes £7.50-8.20, ramen soup/udon soup £7.90-8.50, mixed sashimi £15 and sushi sets cost £11.50-18.50. The drinks list is limited but adequate. Beers include Sapporo, they serve white, red and rose wine by the glass. Go all out and order a hot or cold sake flask.
Sushi Zento Japanese Restaurant Interiors
Restaurant Interior
The interiors are simple with a few cute lucky cat pictures and Japanese paper lanterns. The kitchen is semi-open, you can see the chefs working hard making the sushi. The seats are comfortable, and it’s a cosy space with an authentic feel. The staff are always super friendly, which combined with decent food at reasonable prices, it’s a great place to visit when you need a good meal without having to get dressed up!
Sushi Zento Japanese Restaurant Information
Restaurant Exterior
Go to the Zento Sushi Website for more information. The address is 476 Muswell Hill Broadway, London N10 1BT. The nearest train station is Alexandra Palace (Great Norther Train Line), or you can take the W7 bus from Finsbury Park. They do not have a website so check their Google Map listing for the current opening times. They offer a takeaway service via Just Eat. I did notice that there were comments about the delivery time being too long, which I can’t comment on but in the restaurant, the service is speedy!
