Shop snoop around T and Shop (T & Shop), a super cute cafe and lifestyle concept store on Green Lanes. You’ll find this creative hot spot sandwiched between Stoke Newington, Newington Green and Canonbury, not far from Dalston. They serve a wide variety of teas (hence the T part of the business name) plus coffee and snacks upstairs, and there’s a lifestyle concept store in the basement. If you’re looking for online gifts, a North London gift shop, Stoke Newington cafe or Newington Green cafe, pop into T and Shop for a snoop.

This business is owned by enterprising Emily Grace Wright, who comes from a visual merchandising background. Emily used to live in this space (she’s since moved nearby), and when it became vacant, she decided to set up her dream business. Emily has an excellent eye for selecting the cutest and coolest interior products. If you’re looking for something adorable to buy for your own home or a thoughtful gift for a friend, this is the place to seek it out. You can always shop online if you don’t live in the vicinity.
Selection of Products
The products available to buy include select furniture pieces like Eames style chairs and small storage items like wire hanging shelves and stackable gold wire baskets with handles. Decorative items range from bohemian handwoven wall hangings to plant holders, clocks, cushions, candlesticks and framed art posters. You’ll also find cute ceramics from the Hackney Potter (who was Emily’s pottery teacher), stoneware kitchen bowls, enamel cups and plates, plus plenty more.

Aside from the homewares, you can also buy greeting cards, gift wrap and stationery notebooks. There are some knitted accessories, including Makeda Matheson’s luxurious extra-thick cashmere socks, lambswool beanie hats, scarves and gloves. The handwoven jute string tote bags are so lovely. There are plenty of skincare, body care and haircare products from Meraki. You can also pick up Nathalie Bond Organics skin balm, lip salve and body oils.
T and Shop Cafe
Upstairs is the cafe which is a friendly place to hang out and has around 16 seats plus a couple of tables on the pavement. You can certainly enjoy a great cup of tea here; you’ll see jars of loose-leaf teas on the shelf. Varieties include breakfast, earl grey, rose earl grey, Dorset brew Assam, various chai options, lemon verbena, vanilla rooibos, elderflower, fennel seed, white tea with pomegranate, green tea with cherry blossom and many more. The coffee is excellent, which is by Caravan, and you can order a range from macchiato to mocha. Alternatively, you can opt for a smoothie, fruit juice or vegetable juice.
Selection of Loose Teas
Food-wise it’s light snacks along the lines of homemade granola with yoghurt and cherry or rhubarb compote. Almond milk porridge with mixed seeds and a compote or the Bircher apple porridge with yoghurt, nuts and seed, which will warm you up in the morning. Or perhaps you might be tempted by sourdough toast with homemade preserves. Emily’s friend makes these; they dream up the flavours together, which sound delicious, like fig and orange.
Homemade Preserves
Lunchtime snacks include a bagel with salmon and quark cheese. There’s also chorizo with Gouda cheese and olive tapenade on sourdough. If you want something comforting, go for the grilled cheese and red onion jam toastie. I ordered the avocado with paprika and lime on sourdough with additional feta, which was great and had a powerful chilli kick.

There will also be a selection of baked cakes like raspberry and almond slices, along with granola bars. Emily makes the brownies herself; I don’t know how she manages to find the time. Some of the cakes will be vegan or gluten, dairy and fat-free, which is good to know. If you are there for a cup of tea, don’t forget to pop downstairs to view the shop. You’ll also notice plenty of pretty things dotted around upstairs, like hanging plants and greeting cards which you can admire while sipping your brew.
