While I was exploring Orford Road, I stopped off at The Good Egg for a bite to eat. The Good Egg is tucked inside the Eat 17 food store. They have taken over what used to be the Eat 17 restaurant, and although I miss the old set-up, I was pleased to discover The Good Egg here because I already love their Stoke Newington branch. It’s the kind of place that works for breakfast, brunch, or lunch, serving Middle Eastern-inspired dishes in a laid-back setting. If you’re looking for the best places to eat brunch or lunch in Walthamstow Village, head to The Good Egg on Orford Road, where you will find mezze plates, stuffed pitas, shakshuka, babka French toast and more.

The Good Egg Menu
On my morning visit, I was deliberating over the granola with labneh and sour cherry syrup, the babka French toast, or a pita. I finally settled on the sabih / sabich, a pita stuffed with fried aubergine, egg, salad, and sauces. It was a brilliant choice for breakfast; the aubergine was soft and smoky, the egg added a satisfying texture, and the fluffy pita held it all together. Other fillings include salt beef with dill kraut, za’atar fried chicken with pickled slaw, crispy bacon with date jam, and green falafel with hummus. Pitas cost between £10 and £14, while the French toast is £13.50.
If you’re seeking something larger, their brunch plates include green shakshuka, smoked haddock hash, and a chicken tahini Caesar. Alternatively, you might prefer to choose from the mezze sides to create your own meal, such as pita, bagel chips, cornbread, olives, pickles, labneh, hummus, green whipped feta, hawaij home fries, and halloumi with thyme honey. If you visit between 8 am and 11 am, you can grab the bacon, egg, and cheese bagel. Brunch plates are priced at £14, while mezze sides range from £3.50 to £8, and bagels cost between £6 and £9.50.
To drink, I had a latte that was smooth and creamy, exactly what I needed alongside the sabih / sabich. Or you may prefer to choose from teas, juices, or a refreshing homemade lemonade. Hot drinks typically cost £3 to £4, while juices and smoothies are slightly more expensive.
