Brown leather armchairs and sofas are great for achieving that wanderlust vibe in your living room. You don’t have to match your seating either, you can go for a casual settee which you can team with a more formal armchair like the Cavendish. This is an elegant armchair which has been upholstered in distressed vintage cigar leather. Kilim fabric has been introduced on the seat pad for a stunning contrast which can be flipped over if you tire of the pattern. The edges feature brass studding detail for decorative interest – £549 (current sale price until 22 November 2015) from Barker and Stonehouse.

The main elements of this wanderlust interior so far are the seating, which I am recommending brown leather and additional furniture in mango or reclaimed wood. Those are earthy and natural tones so if you want to introduce more upbeat colours you can do this with your rug and cushions. I’ve picked out a few colourful rugs with nomadic decoration to tempt you. This West Elm Charm Wool Rug is fabulous. It features a traditional Moroccan pattern with stripes and diamonds but with a modern, fresh colour palette. The New Zealand wool has been hand tufted by artisans in India – £499 from John Lewis & Partners.

For more traditional colours try the Shirvan Rug in red which features a beautiful geometric pattern. It has been made by skilled weavers in Iran using hand-spun wool. The bold colours come from vegetable dyes which include red, navy and mustard which really stand out to create a focal point for your room – £125-750 from John Lewis & Partners.

Add a few craft cushions for comfort and decoration. I just love these Collaged Kimi Cushions by All Roads Designed. They come in a range of shapes and sizes with tassels and tufts so you can buy a few and pile them high. The colour palette is muted and the fabrics have rusticity – £68 from Anthropologie (UK). Alternatively, you can go vibrant with bright shades and shiny materials like silk or satin.

Of course, you should treat yourself to a globe so you can swirl it around and reminisce about all those amazing countries you’ve visited. Buy one from an antique shop or car boot sale but if you’d prefer a new one, these Winstone Antique Globes are a great combination of classic style but with muted colours – £99 from Graham & Green.
