Our impromptu visit to Lahpet Burmese Restaurant, Covent Garden, was a brilliant choice. I was dropping off a laptop at the Apple Store one evening. Feeling peckish, we headed to The Yards Covent Garden because it’s a pedestrianised dining destination. After reviewing the tempting menu, we sat outside and had a memorable meal. If you’re looking for curries in Covent Garden, the best places to eat near Covent Garden Station or Burmese cuisine in the West End, you’ll appreciate Lahpet.

Lahpet Burmese Restaurant Menu
Start your meal by sharing a couple of Small Plates. We enjoyed the Fritter Platter comprising Shan Tofu, Spilt Pea and Sweetcorn with Shallots. Thankfully there were two of each fritter, so we didn’t have to divi them up. I liked that each fritter was different, and the tangy Tamarind Dip was divine. Another platter option is the Grilled Skewers (Cornfed Chicken Thigh, Black Tiger Prawn or King Oyster Mushroom with Broccoli) with a Charred Tomato and Chilli Dip.
We also tried the Yellow Pea Paratha, a flatbread filled with a Yellow Pea Curry flavoured with Ginger, Shallot, Chilli, Coriander and Lime. It was superb with a spicy filling.
You’ll be impressed by the Large Plates. I chose the vegan option of Lentil Chow Chow which was a big wow wow! The bowl not only looked beautiful, but the flavours were spot on. It was a type of Red Lentil Dahl with Glass Noodles, Sweet Potatoes and Chilli Jam. I loved every mouthful. Other dishes with noodles include Fish Noodle Soup, Coconut Noodles with Chicken or Tofu with Rice Noodles.
Meanwhile, my partner was super happy with his Hake Masala. The fish was on a Lemongrass and Cassava Rotti with Charred Lime. Other fish options are Fried Bream and King Prawn Curry. There was also a Pork Belly and Sour Bamboo Curry. Add a side of Rice, House Pickles, and Seasonal Greens to complete your meal.
Burmese cuisine is known for its salads, so you may like to try the Lahpet Thohk, a Tea Leaf Salad with Picked Tea, Double Fried Beans, Cabbage, Tomatoes, Dried Shrimp, Sesame Seeds, Garlic Oil and Peanuts. A variation of the Tea Leaf Salad is one with Picked Ginger and another with Green Tomatoes.
We saved a little room for the dinky Desserts and shared the Banana Parfait and the Cassava Cake. Both were unusual, and we’d never tasted anything like these before. Other options are Sorbet and Ice Cream.
Small Plates/Starters cost £3.50-10, Large Plates are £14-18.50, Bowls are £14.50-16.50 and Desserts are £3-8. I thought our final bill was reasonable considering the excellent service, the surroundings and the high standard of food.
Try one of the exciting cocktails such as Turmeric and Yuzu Sour or Goji Fizz. We had a pot of GreenTea and Luscombe Raspberry Crush with our meal.
