Lupins is a lovely restaurant known for its super tasty seasonal small plates featuring British ingredients. You’ll find this adorable eatery facing onto Flat Iron Square, a short walk from Southwark Bridge, Borough and London Bridge. If you’re looking for a romantic restaurant in SE1 or the best places for dinner in Bankside, you’ll appreciate Lupins.

Lupins Restaurant Menu
You’ll enjoy choosing a selection of seasonal British tasting plates from the menu. We went for all the vegetarian options, and Homeboy also had one of the fish dishes. Everything was delicious, and I would love to eat them all over again.
The snacks include sourdough with brown butter, olives and lamb salami. I ordered the Montgomery cheddar fritters, which are little fried balls of cheese. Homeboy raved about his white bean crostini with anchovy salsa.
We tried the white asparagus with boiled egg and parsley sauce from the plates list. The asparagus was tender, and the parsley sauce was the perfect addition.
The oakleaf lettuce with grated Comte cheese, shallots and a vinaigrette dressing is simple yet tasty. I will try to replicate this one at home. I always enjoy burrata, and this dish comes with grapefruit, olives and watercress. It was fresh and tangy.
One of our favourites was the roast tomatoes with monk’s beard and ricotta. We did ask what a monk’s beard is, and it’s a green that’s similar to a chard which originates from the Cappuccino Monks in Tuscany.
Our final savoury dish was Homeboy’s lemon sole with butter sauce, wild garlic and peas. He must have loved it because he bought a lemon sole from Marks and Spencer the following day. The other fish option was sea bass with pistou (garlic, basil and olive oil) and jersey royals.
If you’re a meat-eater, you will probably want to try the pork and fennel ragu with lard toast and greens. Cold roast lamb leg with anchovy and prune salad. Or grilled onglet (steak), bone marrow, Tropea onions and aioli.
We saved room to share the two desserts; cheesecake with rhubarb and crème fraiche and the rather rick dark chocolate ganache with salted caramel and sesame brittle. I’d recommend you share the latter because it’s decadent. If you’d instead finish off your meal with the Neal’s Yard cheese selection, you can! We had tap water but check out the wine list, which is excellent.
In terms of prices, the nibbles are £2-5 while the small plates range from £11-20, desserts are £7, and the cheese board is £11.
Lupins Restaurant Information
We sat outside in the blazing sun, which felt like we were on holiday. To find out more, visit the Lupins Website. The address is 66 Union Street, London SE1 1TD, in an area called the Southwark Quarter. Borough, London Bridge and Blackfriars are the nearest stations. Current opening times are Wednesday to Saturday from 5 pm until 10 pm for dinner and Thursday to Saturday from 12 noon until 3 pm for lunch.
Inside, the restaurant décor is pretty with pastel colours and a beautiful blue. Upstairs is a private dining room that seats eight. I would recommend making a reservation to avoid disappointment.
