We recently enjoyed dining at Casa do Frango, a restaurant celebrating Southern Portuguese cuisine at London Bridge. Our visit was long overdue, and the experience was worth the wait. The restaurant’s menu pays tribute to the traditional cooking of the Algarve region, placing a spotlight on piri-piri chicken and a variety of Portuguese specialities. Being non-meat eaters, we had to give their famous piri-piri chicken a miss but found plenty of veggie options to satisfy our hunger. If you’re looking for Portuguese restaurants in London, the best places for lunch near London Bridge or posh piri-piri chicken, I can recommend Casa do Frango.

Casa Do Frango Southern Portuguese Menu
We started our meal with a delightful Portuguese empanada, a savoury pastry filled with kale, mushroom, and caramelised onion, setting a flavourful tone for lunch ahead.
Our dining experience continued with vegetarian sharing plates, priced between £9-12. The highlight was the vegetable feijoada, a rich and rustic Portuguese stew loaded with grilled hispi cabbage, roasted sweet potatoes, red peppers and crispy artichokes. It was a comforting dish I’ll try to recreate at home … one day.
To accompany the stew, we chose the vegan casa rice, a vibrant green colour with peas, mushrooms, crispy kale and fresh mint. It’s a vegan take on their meat rice dish featuring Portuguese Carolino rice, chorizo and chicken skin.
Try the piri-piri garlic prawns to create a holiday vibe. This visually appealing dish features whole prawns in Algarvian olive oil, garlic, coriander and chilli. Another seafood option is the Portuguese salt cod fritters, perfectly complemented by roasted potatoes, caramelised onions and lemon aioli.
For those inclined towards poultry or meat, the restaurant offers its signature piri-piri chicken, grilled over wood charcoal. You’ll also find other enticing choices like Iberico pork croquettes and grilled chorizo, each promising a burst of flavour.
Sides such as sweet potato served with roasted red pepper yoghurt and fire-roasted green vegetables perfectly accompany the main dishes. We chose the latter, which was delicious but had ingredients similar to the rice, so I wondered whether the charred cauliflower with honey, lemon, and piri-piri would have been better. I also regretted not trying the Portuguese-style chips, but this gives me a reason to return!
Desserts were a must despite being full. We savoured a pastel de nata with a sprinkling of cinnamon. We also tried the bolo de bolacha, a unique biscuit cake layered with Maria biscuits, vanilla cream, and salted caramel. Although it looked bland with the biscuit on top, underneath the cream was a welcome find. I look forward to trying the almond cake and chocolate mousse on my next visit!
Opting for tap water to stay focused for work, we missed out on the impressive selection of cocktails, sangria, and Portuguese wines, which I’m sure you’ll appreciate.
